Coombe Sydenham. What a venue! I had heard good things about the place and it really lived upto the reports. Ground conditions were perfect and there were 4 expert routes that really offered a good time saving. The course offered some seriously steep climbs and decents. Orsum! :D

My race started badly as I had neglected to practice dead engine start on the KTM and all the riders on my starting line were out of sight by the time I got moving :o I quickly caught the back of the championship pack and witnessed a rider two places ahead of me t-bone a deer  and another ran behind said rider which was nearly collected by the guy directly in front of me caused me to serve to avoid hitting him up the tail pipe :o

I moved up through the class and got to 7th place [I'm told] when I got a rear wheel punchure  I was running 15 psi to reduce the risk of punchures too :(

on the plus side I did learn a little more about riding the EXC in the woods and I felt there was more speed to come as the race wore on. :)

How you find the new bike paul? unlucky about ya result.

I've never suffered from punctures, use heavy duty tubes at about 10-12 psi. But like been said by fryspeed i aint travelling as fast as you champ boys.

My solution = mooses ( not the ones with legs ) :xbeer

was the course difficult if you didnt use the expert routes? the only reason i didnt do this, was alot of people we're telling me dad that after only 3 enduro's,this one might have been too much for me:o

You would have been fine Lewis, from what people had told me the course is normally alot wetter when they run this event which makes things a little more tricky on a trails tyre.

tbh you would have made it up the expert routes, Gary made it up them on the ossa  Having said that they were a challenge. The picture below shows and expert rider in trouble after being blocked half way up by a slower rider.

These two give an idea of the size of the hill, although I had a long lens on the camera which made it hard to get a full shot.

The first pic shows the bottom section, the marshall is just going onto a narrow fire road and the second pic shows the top half of the climb.

I liked it Boycey, I didn't even notice the "soft" power or suspension like I did on the MX track. I guess the EXC just loves it's natural habitat :)

It did start on the button a minute before the race, but it didn't at crunch time :o:o:o

As for the next SCEC, I don't think so, I have a big booking for the MX experience on the same day :(
