Made the trip to Jersey for the first event since the Ride day, and being full of cold wasn't really feeling up to much on Sunday morning. I'd had a day of the 2 other younger guys in the van giving it the "were gonna give it everything and show you" routine.

Weather had been a bit all over the place, but the track looked fairly good, damp and tacky under a bit of dust. Went out for practice and took it easy for a lap to get back in the groove since June. Started to feel confident by the start of the second lap so started to push it and attack the track a bit. On the way up to the finish of lap 2 i had 4 Table tops to the finish, and nailed the first sweet and smooth, took off for the second and was a bit long, but the back wheel made the downside, and all was well..........................until the front touched, and i cracked the Right footpeg bracket, and carreered off to the right, no room (Or footpeg) to apply brakes so took off the third in a right state, but managed to stay upright, and miss the fencing. Got back to the pits with a heart rate of about 250, and a pretty sore right foot.

With the weekends travel all over i was pretty dejected, sitting waiting for the others in the van to arrive in, giving it the "Look, the old fat guy couldn't handle more than 2 laps!" Anyways, as i had cracked the same bit about 2 years ago, i had a temporary bracket made as the genuine took ages to arrive, and as luck would have it i still had it in the van. So i set about fitting it, then hobbled off to locate my footpeg, from where i last remember standing on it. Jobs a good un!

Race 1, i got to the line pretty much last and with a long downhill sweeper to the right, everyone had lined up right to the inside, so i decided that i would have a nicegate in the remaining spaces to the far left. As the gate dropped i had a lovely jump out of the gate, and headed for a line about 10' wide of the first of the 2 apex's, and with a little roll off the throttle, slight direction change and then pinned again, i took a nice sweet, speedway style route round the first turn into a beautiful holeshot. After about 3 laps i had a 5 or six second lead, which started to get eaten into by 2nd and 3rd, but i kept pushing, despite the cold having an adverse effect on my breathing. By about half distance me and 2nd had a lead of about 10 seconds, and i was still riding fairly comfortable. With 2 laps to go we got to the very narrow sandy switch back section and 2nd tried the outside, and lost the front, giving me a nice little breather and comfortable last lap to the flag.

With a lunch break before the second race we took the liberty of going into the spectator area to watch the youth races, and look how the track changed, only to overhear the comentator saying that our race was on the line as they had decided to miss lunch. So we ran back to the van, to grab our kit in a vain attempt to make the start. Luckily one of the fathers had seen us running, and grabbed my bike and headed to line, where they were not waiting. I hopped on mine, started kicking it as the 20 second board went up, clicked second as it flipped to 5, and nailed another start, only to be pushed out wide, and into second. I sat behind for 5-6 laps, and found some new lines. In the sandy switch back section i decided on the inside of both. I went for it in the first and hashed it, by getting cross rutted, so the leader shot accross the front of me, and went to the second outside, i regained a little composure, made the inside rut, and nailed the pass, and held it to the finish.

Race 3 had a fair start, missed the turn in and went, way, way, wide, but after using the bank, and the far outside berm, was in third. the leader and second, both took the wide line at the hairpin, so i nipped up the inside and nabbed second, and set about pressuring for the lead. I tried various lines in a bid, but he wasn't making mistakes, so i kept at it, and eventually paid off, as i outbraked him and made the pass up the inside of a hairpin. i pushed hard for a few laps and built a 4-5 second lead, but he binned it with a lap to go.

All in all a damn good day for me after what looked like a bleak start! Oh, and the drive down to the boat in the van was very quiet as the 2 young guys got beat by the old, fat, sick guy!

2010 Colts Preseason: Peyton Peyton Manning jersey is pumped about the Colts defense in 2010 by BigBlueShoe on Aug 23, 2010 3:23 PM EDT in 2010 Colts Preseason 11 comments More photos » David Duprey - AP .7 days ago: Indianapolis Colts' Kelvin Hayden (26) tackles Buffalo Bills' Roscoe Parrish (11) during the first quarter of an NFL preseason football game at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010. (AP Photo/ David Duprey) Browse more photos »I'm going to re-post a quote from Peyton Peyton Manning jersey I highlighted over the weekend: "I'm pumped up about our defense," Peyton Manning jersey said. "We have without a doubt the best safety tandem in football with Antoine Bethea and Sanders. Melvin Bullitt is an absolute stud who could start on any other team." We've followed Peyton for four years on this blog, and for thirteen years while he's been with the Colts. I do not ever remember a time where Peyton said, "I'm pumped up about our defense." And while Peyton has always been one to praise players like Dwight Freeney, this is the first time I've seen him talk about a specific area, like the safeties, as "the best in football." Considering Peyton probably knows the Colts defense better than any other quarterback in the NFL (he practices against them every day), it stands to reason that his praising the group is yet another confirmation of what we have been seeing consistently from training camp and preseason. The Colts defense is going to be scary good in 2010.A reoccurring theme that the Colts have echoed since OTAs is how comfortable the starters are with Larry Coyer's defense. While rookies like Pat Angerer have struggled to master it, the strength in Coyer's system is its flexibility. There are different coverages now, different blitz packages. Defenders now crowd the line and either attack gaps or back off and play coverage (usually Cover 3). With Bob Sanders healthy and back in the fold, we are seeing a three safety look in nickel packages, with Melvin Bullitt stepping in at the normal 4-2 linebacker spot. This look could also, in theory,NCAA Jerseys, be used on 3rd and five situations where teams usually employ draw plays on the Colts because, again, Bob Sanders is back. The addition of a healthy Bob Sanders in a Larry Coyer defense really changes the playing field. Melvin Bullitt is a damn good safety and, as Peyton said, he could start on nearly half the teams in the NFL. The luxury of having him allows the Colts to absorb the blow of losing someone like Sanders, as the team did for most of last year. With the two of them together, paired with Antoine Bethea, and the defense is no longer just effective. The defense is scary.
