Default UMX at Ringmer

Well after all the speculation of a pretty poor track im happy to annonce that it turned out to be quite good with conditions after practice and qualifing near perfect... well watered to start so it was quite slick to start but as the hours passed it just got better and better... Organising club ran an extremly tight ship with no hold-ups at all, well ok one slight one when several marshalll just uped and left there points..

So after arriving expecting a chalk hardpack track Hollywood Senior's tyre choice was a bit iffy.. The track was swimming to start and the intermediate Goldentyre was caked in mud and not gripping in the wet... but when it started to dry after the qualifiers it was , uh...... hooking up to say the least ... so much so I asked to put some more air in as I could hang on to the FUTURE RACING Suzuki...

So the qualifier...... HOLESHOT.. lead for a few laps then came under some pretty intense pressure from a couple of the loacal lads, so I let them by and studied their lines....

Race 1.... HOLESHOT lead for half the race but again a couple of the locals caught me and checking back to look for my main rival I rode for a 3rd place finish as it didnt benefit me to beat these lads... unfortunatly Cannon (series leader) came home one behind.... 2 pts reclaimed...

Race 2.... HOLESHOT and had a cushion behind me in the form of another FUTURE RACING rider Arron Carmiechal... pulled a comfortable gap on him and settled down to a second UMX win... Better news was Cannon had dropped it on the first lap and only managed a 21st, although the locals dont get scored which put him back inside the top ten.. still a handful more points reclaimed...

Race 3..... Did a bit of stretching on the line and got cramp... thankfully it went straight away... Was a little unsettled with my start gate as it seemed to be a lot more upright then all the rest..called the starter over and he said 'No its fine'.... bloody well wasnt.... all the other gates dropped quicker and I found myself on the inside of a tight turn midpack.. hard on the anchors with the clutch in I stayed tight and made up a lot of ground round the outside of turn 2 and appeared into the view of the crowd in 5th...... Only trouble was Cannon and 2 other UMX riders were in front... Caught and passed the series leader and then moved quickly into 2nd only to not be able to find a way round him...the leader my FUTURE team mate had gotten the jump and was disappearing rapidly... but by now fatigue was setting in and to my relief i had dropped Cannon and he was going backwards fast... With 2 UMX riders in front of me and no way I was gunna risk dropping it I backed off to stay onbord with the tyre hooking up real well...in fact too well another local slipped past to see me finish a super pumped 5th and overall victor...

I'd like to thank FUTURE RACING for their ongoing support GOLDENTYRE for hooking me up well, NO FEAR for protecting me Hollywood Senior for his tyre choice.....

Couple of other forum members rode there today, Beeby, Dr Who, MX Mitchell and Ian (dont know his forum name, he was #64 at the track day)

Hopefully these boys will post up there reports too...

Got some pic's to post, but not till tommorrow, sorry...

Default Ringmer -- Not so bad after all.

We drove over 100 miles ( like many other UMX riders I'm sure ) not really expecting too much apart from the threat of dust and a twisty flat track, but hats off to the organising club, they did a good job. My only critisism was with the start - into a very tight right hander not ever the best idea to put 40 bikes on a start line and effectively remove their back brakes . Thankfully no bad accidents or long stoppages but when you see your son mid pack have some guy next to him swerve straight across his line at the entry to the 1st turn you tend to catch your breath.
Still, 1st turns are always likely to be hairy and no bad knocks as far as I saw. The fast guys in the experts really got to grips with the track and a certain Mr. Smythe did what the real quick ones always do and made it look easy but from a spectatots point of view, all riders in all the groups put on some good racing. I always look at the 125 riders (#93) with some amazememt screaming round on their littlle'uns showing the bigger bikes the way I reckon Paul must use Super Glue on his gloves to hang on .
Ady, your,e a class act on that smoker esp. your holeshot , bugger off and take the flag win.... but you'll have to fluff a few gear changes or maybe get a few punctures on those (dare I say it) Golden Tyres or your gonna end up an Expert
Both my boys had good rides, one in the experts and the other his 1st time in A group... the bikes held together and we had just enough deisel in the van to get home without taking out a 2nd mortgage to fill up so we may be back again, and the old dears ise cream was pretty good too.

Yeah, 100 miles was pretty local compared to the jaunt we went on.

That for a track that I thought was pretty poor. It was not as bad as I expected but I don't think it was worth the trek we went on.

It didn't help that I had a terrible day, got caught up in a crash in the first corner of qualifying race and left the first corner last and behind the pack. I came through but missed the A group by a place. Which is day over for me really.

The 3 B races weren't much better, couldn't get out the gate properly, twice rounding the second corner pretty much last and having to come through the field again.

Not a track that suits me at all.

Couldn't believe how many guest riders there were, clearly a lot of UMX regulars chose to sit this one out.

Had a pretty good day

For once i got through my qualifier without incident and managed to get into the A, normally i end up arse over tit on the 1st corner or mullering into a fallen rider!

I have one real complaint with UMX at the moment though, no start pegs !!

I went down to my 1st race after watching the 1st lap of experts to see how my bro was doing to find that the whole right hand side of the start was taken up,pretty much eliminating the chances of a good start before the race has even begun! With a sketchy 1st corner, rubbish start gate and a crap jump, i ended up at the back of the pack, managing to work my way through to 25th.

2nd race i got a slightly better start position which made things a lot easier. I got a good jump and with elbows out, entered the 1st corner within the top 10, however the guy next to me decided he had enough and jumped off his bike, pushing me wide and dropping me back a few places. I managed to fight around the 10th mark for the majority of the race, having a real good battle and keeping their pace, however fatigue and arm pump set in, with me finally dropping down the order to 18th

3rd race again i didnt get down the start early enough and had a pretty crap position. With another pretty rubbish start and the person next to me failling over again i ended up pretty far back. 1st lap i was working through the field when i twisted my bad knee (had ACL opp last year) on a rut and tweeked it causing some pretty bad pain. With my mind full of doubt i cruised for a few corners stretching it to see if it was alright. Adrenalin eventually pulled me through and with me stone last by a good few seconds, i managed to get up a couple more places before the finish

Overall im finally starting to get over my armpump troubles and enjoy racing again.
Taking away all the guests, i got 3 alright finishes within the UMX guys so pretty sweet

hi guys, i thought the track was ace for a school boy track.

all the prep was spot on, watering made for so many lines, could quite of easy been 1 line but wasnt.

The racing was faster than your average UMX. I thought it made for good competition.

I had a good day, scoring a 3 top 7's maybe alittle higher in my last race, largerly helped by abit of gate advice by the one & only ady sandbags cowshall.

Well done jamie, for gettin through a qualifying race & making starts count. well done ady for baggin some serious points!!!

cheers rusty for gettin my bike down the line early

if anyone has pics, 8 experts or 10 junior a
