George's plan is pretty good Dobbin. That's the type of diet I was alluding to above re the plant or animal phrase. Lean meat and fish with a load of veg or a massive bowl of salad is the way forward. And yes, if you really have a craving for something then have it - it's a cliche but try and remember there's no 'bad' food as such - just a bad diet.

I always refer to beer, curry, sweets/chocloate etc as Vitamin X - but they are part of a balanced diet, but only if you have them in moderation and only when you feel like you really need them!

Also set yourself a realistic target as Beeby has said, and if you have a bad day or whatever don't worry - just remember it's a long-term goal, stay on course as best you can and you'll get there.

You prob know this already too, but always weight yourself on the same day at the same time. Even me at 12 stone can see a difference of say 7 lbs if I get weighed either first thing or last thing.

Oh and one more thing - if you have a tape measure then have a look at this site. It'll prob give you a much better idea of progress than just weighing yourself alone. Muscle being heavier than fat and all that

Mint tea Wow you must be suffering to try that sh!7e, it will take a few days to get the hunger pangs at bay your stomach will shrink over the next week and you wont notice so much. I use cottage cheese and those rice cakes when im feeling a bit pekish. I also go for a walk when I feel I might cave in and raid the wifes Kitkats, it gets you away from temptation and when you get back your cured. I do live rural so no chippies about on my walk.
If you can remember when you stopped smoking, the cravings will be similar but not so intense and when youve got the first week or two done and you see the results on the scales then that gives you the drive to keep going.
If your intending doing some training to compliment your diet one of the best times is right after you get out of bed before brekkie, very hard to get motivated for that one but its supposed to be the best time to train with the aim to lose fat. Well done for day one
PS re fruit: Keep away from bananas unless your training or riding as the body will store the carbs from them and burn that instead of fat, this is why you've to cut your carb intake but you still require some to function or you'll turn into a sugar zombie eventually I work on a 1/3 of my daily food is carbs of some sort.

One more tip that works for me quite often too. Sometimes after a meal I feel I 'need' something sweet, as a dessert type thing. I don't get it all the time, but I do get it quite often. For me having a cup of coffee often does the trick just to take that urge away, so maybe give that one a try too if it affects you? It doesn't always work but it quite often does.

Urges I always deal with by eating either an apple (because it feels quite filling (probably the liquid content)) or a bowl of bran flakes, good fibre source and low cals.

The key thing that I stopped consuming was BEER, 3 months off it (just about) and no fizzy drinks either and that makes a HUGE difference.

The great thing about getting fitter is how you sustain it. I have had some things going on lately (last few weeks) which have made it impossible to get to the gym regularly and I felt like all my hard work was gone. However went last night and did the usual work I do to guage my fitness and I was not too bad at all.

Its a good feeling.
