Sorry to bring this back on topic, but as I have recently joined the Spacka knee club I thought id post.
On the last lap of my last every race I cross rutted on a ski jump, landed in a heap and KO'ed myself. A minor knee niggle and nothing I worried about, but the Las (being a radiographer) sorted me a free MRI scan at her work, It showed a minor tear in my medial meniscus, 6 weeks rest and all will be good. 2.5 months later and i was confident to build up fitness and start playing footie again, knee was fine for 5 games, but when i flexed it right back it felt 'odd'. Anyho, 3 weeks ago, 20 min into a match i slide in and tackle a fella, won the ball and didnt even touch him, get up and couldn't straighten my sliding knee fully, It swelled up and went a really odd pinky purple colour.
3 weeks on and the swelling is better, but still no movement. Another MRI has shown a bucket handle tear in my medial meniscus, and the fragment has flipped, jamming the knee. Gonna need and op to repair / remove the fragment, though either will lead to a high probability of re injury or more severe damage in high impact sport... like motocross and football...
So, anyone fancy a game of tiddly winks?

People I've known with meniscus tears who have had ops have been very successful and never had any probs at all.
Isnt this the same as the op fryspeed had?
With the re-injury thing, I've spoke to many people about a similar thing. I've torn the ligaments in my right ankle 6 times, and my left 4. The last time I done my right, I slid into a tackle, went over on my ankle and matey landed on it while it was turned over. Basically I turned it so hard that the ligament fractured my fib. I've always been worried that my ankles will give out and do more damage. From the specialists I've seen theyve said that you could sprain or tear ligaments 30 times, and then never ever have a problem with it re-occuring after.

jesus man, What are your ligaments made of?
Ligament tears heal up pretty strong, had a medial collateral ligament problem in the same knee 5 years ago and you can see on the MRI how much thicker it is where ther tear was.
The meniscus is a cartalidge and doesnt seem to grow back, cutting a chunk off of you knees 'shock absorber' doenst do it much good, theres some stuff here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tear_of_meniscus
I think Fry had a ACL re-atattchment, not the same.

I think its more to do with the fact of being overweight and playing footy all my life!!
Is there no grafts they can do with it? When my brother de-attached his mcl from the bone they were contemplating using a graft from his thigh or a plastic ligament.
If they only have to cut a small part off, hopefully it wont affect it too much

My injury is an ACL rupture.Luckily I didnt damage anything else. When they did the op they removed the ACL stump as it was stopping me from fully straightening my knee.Feels real good now.Spent this week cycling every day building it up again.Back on the bike soon

It seems really really common now.
Yeah lads had fooked up knees in the past and the internet makes it more accessible nowadays but it just seems to me that ther are a heck of a lot more injuries now than there once was.
