Default Marathon Training Diary

Right - the probs with my shoulder are getting me down quite a bit to be honest, especially combined with other stuff going on right now. Both me and my bro might well be looking at retirement from MX I think, but we've made a little pledge to try and be on the start line come the 2009 season if we can. So, I'm very much in need of a new focus, as March 09 is a long way off!

I've been giving it some thought, and due to my injuries the only real physical activity I can do is running. So I'm going to do a few competitive races in the coming months, with a few to maybe trying a marathon later in the year - Nottingham is a possiblity on 14th Sept. So with this in mind I'm going to keep a training log on here, as it may help me while away the despair at missing the Track Day, my 50 lap sessions and the customary Dwarf Throwing later on!!

One thing that may change all this is if I have to have another op on my shoulder - I see a consultant privately on 1st Feb, and if he wants to operate then all this gets shelved for a bit and the marathon debut will have to wait!!

Anyway, on with the log - which I'm backdating to 1st Jan

1st Jan

Long Fast Run

Running on treadmill - 90 minutes.

11.23 miles
1505 calories

Heart Rates
154 bpm average
163 bpm max

7.5 mph average speed - 8'00 miles

Bear in mind running on treadmills is generally a fair bit easier than running outside, so I was probably nearer 8'30 per mile.

3rd Jan

Recovery Session - Cross Trainer

Cross Trainer - 1 hour - Manual Programme, Levels 12-13

864 calories
4.34 km

Average Watts - 230

Heart Rates
143 bpm average
152 bpm max

At my previous gym I could do 15km in an hour on the Cross Trainer, whereas on this one I can't even do 5! So not sure why the distances are so varied, but the calories burnt are about the same so I'm using that as my base figure for Cross Trainer work.

5th Jan

Hard Session on Cross Trainer

Cross Trainer - 1 hour - Manual Programme

968 calories
4.28km

Heart Rates
153 bpm average
163 bpm max

0-6 minutes at Level 13
6-60 minutes at Level 15

Oh and I can only use the leg bit on the Cross Trainer too, so no arms are used.

You can say that again, running those stupid distances.

That's why they invented the car
