Fair play lee,i don't know how you run for over and hour in the gym, its way too hot i reckon and id go too red! You got proper running shoes, your doing serious mileage if your technique, etc is bad.

And Fokker Radcliffe, don't worry yourself about our lack of progress, tomorrow night its an army style jog with snap-on top boxes,mx boots and sweat suit

Yes mate I've had the foot scan done years back so I need to get structured shoes - Nike Air Structure Triax seem to fit my feet really well, so I've just ordered another pair today actually - £44.99 online compared to RRP of £75!

I know what you mean re running indoors too - I really need to get outside to get the full benefits of my training.

Change the Snap On boxes to lunch boxes and you might get Rowley to come too!

- my running style is a touch weird yes!! I over-pronate quite badly, meaning I land on the outside of my foot and then my ankle kind of collapses inwards. So I not only wear structured shoes - I've also got orthotic insoles in there too!

"Special" Lee and his "Special" shoes

I might get some running shoes, any benefit u reckon? I've got dodgy ankle ligaments and the outside edge of my shoes always wears first. Does this make me "special" too

In all seriousness I think it would be a big help yes. I was having some major probs with my ankle too, largely caused by biomechanical problems (the overpronation explained above). If you wear the outside of your shoes out quicker than the rest then you overpronate too - it's very very common. So you'd probably be looking at some kind of structured shoe.

If you're going to be doing much running then I'd strongly recommend getting a foot scan done. A lot of proper running shops do them now (proper shops I mean, not ones like JD Sports or whatever) - you basically go to the shop with your current shoes and some running kit and you run on the treadmill for a little while while they analyse your gait. They can then recommend a suitable pair of shoes based on that. The analysis is generally free too, especially if you then buy a new pair of shoes off them.

There'll be a range of structured shoes covering a range of prices. Just pick a budget you want to spend (say £50) and they'll have say a pair of Nike, Asics, Adidas, Saucony etc. Just try them on and see which feel best, and you're sorted.

Due to your running style you could spend say £150 on a pair of top of the range cushioned or neutral shoes and they'd be terrrible for you - because they don't offer any real support for how you run. So get some proper structured ones and you might find that ankle problem clears up a bit.
