Post Race Preperation. (part 1)

RACE PREPERATION

Do you prepare for a race?

When do you start to get ready?

What do you do?

Three simple questions for you to think about. I intent to update on this theme over the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled for futher advice.

So here's some Food or Fluid for thought! Hydration. Are you hydrated? unfortunitly Thirst is a poor indicator of hydration status. We only really get thirsty once we are dehydrated to a certain extent. So there for we should not really let oursleves reach this state and take action before this happens.

The average sedentary person in the UK needs between 2-3 litres of fluid per day, However if water output is increased for any reason we need to adjust our intake to maintain a balance. When we exercise we produce heat in our muscles and this must be removed to maintain our body temperature, We do this by sweating. If you do not account for this extra water loss we become Dehydrated.

So we need to be preparing all the time for a race. One form of preperation is to be Hydrated.

My Normal preperation would be...
  • Fixing bike night before, usually making it a worse state than it already was:LOL:
  • Eating anything i can find with a can of coke
  • Realising the kit is dirty so cleaning it with a piece of tissue:LOL:
  • Having a late night out, usually getting wasted and getitng home early hours of the morning

Suppose thats why i'm awful at racing!

Matt, Are you drinking a litre a day? This still may not be enough for you. People who do no exercise at all should take in 2 litres a day! active people should take in more to allow for sweat loss.

Cheers, Paul
